The 2nd and 3rd floors of the CoSA parking garage are now open for residents’ cars. As of 8:30 this morning the 2nd floor was already full. A number of OCS neighbors lost cars that were left in driveways or in garages during Matthew and Irma. Please consider moving your car to higher ground during this extreme weather event.
The City Commission is holding a special workshop on Vacation/Short Term Rentals this coming Wed, May 22 at 9am. The meeting will be held in the Alcazar Room. The Alcazar Room is located on the northwest side of the Lightner Building, 75 King Street. The format will be similar to a city commission meeting with public comment at the beginning followed by city commission discussion and professional testimony on the issue. Seven candidates have volunteered to serve on the Old City South Neighborhood Association. Here are short bios on each of the candidates: Gail Crocetta was born in upstate New York where she and her husband Pat lived and raised their 2 children. Gail graduated from the State University of New York at Albany and became a Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC). She managed vocational programs serving individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment. This coming Tuesday (11/6) is going to be a full day. It’s election day, so don’t forget to vote! It’s also the November meeting of the Planning and Zoning Board, at which there is a request to change the zoning of 125 Marine Street from RS-1 to RL-1. The Fall General Neighborhood Mtg. originally scheduled for this Thursday night, 10/18, has been postponed due to a scheduling conflict at the Galimore Center. The new date for the meeting will be Tuesday, 10/23. The doors will open at 5:55pm. There will be a Q & A Forum with SAPD Chief Barry Fox from 6:05 to 7pm concerning, crime, homelessness, policing and other police related matters. Virginia and Bruce Maguire of 297 St. George report suspicious activity around their property in the middle of the night, 2 nights ago. Virginia noticed that a back porch light which had been lighting properly every night was not lighting. The light bulb was a long life LED lightbulb which had been changed 2 months before and had been working up until two night ago. When Bruce checked on the light yesterday, he found that the lightbulb had been unscrewed, and that the lightbulb worked fine once it had been screwed back in. Yes, it’s that time of year again. Looking east to the corner of King Street and Avenida Menendez at the height of Hurricane Mathew. And if this week’s hail storm is any indication, it’s going to be an interesting storm season. Storms and flooding are a fact of life here in our ancient city. OCS Neighbors, The 3rd Annual Spring Neighborhood Picnic is just around the corner. This year it’s going to be held at Bruce and Virginia Maguire’s house (297 St. George) from 4pm to 6pm next Sunday. There will be a lot of old hands, but some new faces as well, as a number of new families have moved into the neighborhood. Come and hang out with your neighborhors! It should be a lot of fun.
